Characters

In a game like Starkeepers: Who Do You Love? peoples' connection to, and interest in, the story lives or dies based on whether or not they connect with the characters. With that in mind, I'm excited to share the cast with you here. I hope they will grab your imagination as you meet them the same way they each grabbed mine as they popped into my head. They're a quirky, noisy bunch and I can tell you this from a writer's perspective: living with these folks in my head has not been dull.

She has chosen to specialize in vampires since her mother was killed by one when Penny was very small. Penny has a special allure that tends to draw supernatural creatures to her and blames herself for her mother's death.

Reason for going to Ravenwood Manor: Penny has been informed that people in a nearby village have started going missing. Aware that ancient vampire Silas Ravenwood is one of the occupants of the manor, Penny has taken advantage of the fact that his grandmother is trying to find him a mate and is posing as the latest candidate in this matchmaking scheme. In reality, she is there to determine whether Silas is a threat who needs to be neutralized.

Shayla was given to the church as a child and grew up there. When she was twelve she interrupted a purification ritual and ended up possessed by a demon herself. During this ordeal, the demon used her to kill her best friend.

Reason for going to Ravenwood Manor: Shayla has received intel from a Holy Father of the Church of Light that there is a demon present at Ravenwood Manor. She has been given instructions that she is to find and eliminate this threat before it can cause harm to people in any of the nearby villages or towns. With this in mind, Shayla responded to an ad placed in the paper by Silas grandmother and is pretending to be the girl who was invited as a potential marriage candidate.

Works For: Shattermoon Coven
Job Description: Witch

Mission: Winter is on a quest to find her missing familiar, a fat, talking purple cat named Twinkie. He went missing roughly a year ago, but now that Winter is supposed to become the apprentice to the high priestess of her coven, her familiar is a necessity for the rituals she is supposed to undertake to be worthy of this role. Until or unless Twinkie can be found, those rituals cannot be performed. And if things are delayed much longer, another successor will have to be chosen. That's a slight Winter isn't willing to accept.

Reason for going to Ravenwood Manor: Winter has heard tales of a strange cat eared man living at Ravenwood Manor. The thing that has set off alarm bells is that he looks a lot like her best friend, Thorn, who was placed under a magically induced coma three years prior due to a serious medical condition. Winter knows that Thorn's body went missing around the same time that Twinkie did. And now there's a walking, talking were-cat version of him? Hmm... Winter will face one additional challenge, though: she's a witch who is allergic to cats! Winter accepts the position offered by Ms. Ravenwood so she can properly investigate.

The Men of Ravenwood Manor:

Hair: Blonde
Eyes: Crimson
Birthday: October 25th
Race: Vampire
Favorite Food:  Rare Steak
Favorite Color: Gold
Works For: The Ravenwood Clan
Job Description: Heir

Mission: Silas' main concerns are retaining his humanity and his freedom. A 400 year old vampire, the fact that he is still sane despite not taking a mate is shocking. Without a partner, it's rare for a vampire to hold onto their sanity or humanity for as long as he has or to the degree that he has. But his grandmother, the current head of the clan, fears that this tentative grip could slip at any time. The only way to ensure he maintains it is to find a woman who will anchor him to the living world.

Reason for going to Ravenwood Manor: Silas wants to tell granny that she can shove it where the sun doesn't shine. But she is the one who raised him, and he respects her too much to actually go through with it. 300 years ago he lost control and revealed the presence of vampires to a human settlement. Those sympathetic to vampires--including the girl Silas was convinced was his his mate--we gathered by angry townsolk and burned. Silas blames himself for her death to this day and has refused to consider any other woman as a mate since. He's resisted his blood lust this long in her honor. But his grandmother is certain that cannot last forever.

Hair: Black
Eyes: Amber
Birthday: July 11th
Race: Oni Demon
Favorite Food:  Black cherry ice cream.
Favorite Color: Royal Purple
Works For: Nox the Spider Lord
Job Description: Collector

Mission: Aiden's main concern is ensuring that the Ever Moon remains present over Ravenwood Manor so that the major and grounds remain safe for his best friend, Silas the vampire. In order to make this happen, Aiden has spent the past two hundred years in a pact of service to the Spider Lord, Nox. In exchange for upholding the Ever Moon, Aiden finds suitable offerings for Nox and his minions to consume or use to grow their brood. The spiders of the Ravenwoods are not to be underestimated.

Reason for going to Ravenwood Manor: Aiden is actually the owner of Ravenwood Manor; he just lets people call it that and think that it belongs to the vampires since they like social status and clout, whereas Aiden doesn't care about any of that and usually uses his shape-shifting abilities to stay out of the spotlight. He has turned Ravenwood Manor into a refuge for lost or rejected supernatural beings, creating a place where they can feel safe. Aiden wanted to befriend humanity in his youth but was shunned and abused by those he tried to befriend. He has never forgotten their cruelty.
